The INQUIRE Lab led by Dr. Diaz Eaton tackles projects at the interface of interdisciplinary STEM education, faculty support and development, networks for social change, and digital spaces.
Please note that I (CDE) am on Sabbatical in the 22-23 year, with Visiting Researcher and Program Organizer positions at the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics at Brown University and at the Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation at the University of Chicago. I am continuing student advising for STEM Scholars and DCS minors during this time, but am not teaching, nor taking new thesis students.

Dr. Carrie Diaz Eaton is an Associate Professor of Digital and Computational Studies at Bates. As a mathematical and computational biologist, she has worked in research areas from computational neurobiology to disease ecology and evolutionary theory and uses this grounding to apply network perspectives for STEM Education research and advocacy. Dr. Diaz Eaton explores STEM Education reform communities by qualitatively, quantitatively, and computationally examining language, synthesizing frameworks across disciplines in undergraduate quantitative and computational education, creating digital counternarrative spaces, and fostering collaborative professional development. Related to this work, Dr. Diaz Eaton is co-founder and lead Principal Investigator of the Institute for a Racially Just, Inclusive, and Open STEM Education. The RIOS Institute is a virtual synthesis center which supports a collaborative network of leaders who are using open education to transform STEM education towards justice and equity.
Carrie Diaz Eaton currently serves as the Chair for the Committee for Minority Participation in Mathematics for the Mathematical Association of America [MAA], on the Editorial Boards of PRIMUS and Course Source, and is an MAA Values Leader. Dr. Diaz Eaton is a 2012 MAA Project NExT Fellow and a 2018 Linton-Poodry SACNAS Leadership Institute Fellow. In 2020, Dr. Diaz Eaton was awarded the Society for Mathematical Biology John Jungck Excellence in Education Prize for her work in interdisciplinary computational and mathematical biology education and mentorship.
In 2014, Dr. Diaz Eaton co-founded the Virtual Center for Quantitative Undergraduate Biology Education and Synthesis, also serving as the QUBES Director of Partnerships until 2021. She has also served as past Program Chair and Electronic Communications Chair of BIO SIGMAA, as Education Subgroup Chair for the Society of Mathematical Biology, on the Editorial Board for Letters in Biomathematics, and as project director for Math Mamas, a digital narrative project (now led by Emille Davie Lawrence).
Dr. Diaz Eaton is also a proud 1st generation Latinx. Her father is from Peru. She is also a mother. Dr. Diaz Eaton values the complex interplay at the intersection of her identities, professional activism in STEM education, and her research.
